How to Overwinter Peonies

How to Overwinter Peonies

1. Indoor insulation

If you want the peony to survive the winter smoothly, you must move it indoors in time, because the temperature outside is relatively low and the plant can easily be frozen. In addition, the temperature must be appropriate, and try to provide it with a growth environment above 15℃. When the weather is good at noon, it is best to open the windows to get some fresh air.

2. Increase Lighting

The longer the plants receive sunlight in winter, the more beneficial it is for them to survive the winter. The sunlight in this season is not as strong as in summer, and the plants will not be sunburned even if they are exposed to sunlight for a whole day. In addition, getting as much sunlight as possible can also increase the breeding temperature.

3. Reasonable pruning

In winter, the plant will have dry leaves, and some overlapping branches that are infested by diseases and insects, so it is necessary to prune it in time. Only in this way will the plant be healthier, and its body will be more ventilated and breathable, which can help the plant survive the winter smoothly.

4. Reduce fertilizer and water

When growing plants in winter, the amount of watering and fertilizing must be reduced appropriately. If you still water and fertilize them normally, the plants will easily be burned. During the winter, the soil in the pot should be kept slightly moist or slightly dry, but not too wet.
