Angelica planting methods and conditions

Angelica planting methods and conditions

Angelica sinensis , as a traditional Chinese medicinal material with a long history, has multiple functions. It is not only commonly used by the people to make nourishing soups, but also can prevent and treat various diseases, so it is widely favored. The cultivation of angelica is spread across many regions of my country, but to successfully grow angelica, in addition to mastering relevant agricultural techniques, specific growth conditions must also be met. Let’s learn about the planting methods and conditions of Angelica sinensis.

1. Planting conditions

Climate requirements: Angelica prefers a mild and humid climate environment, and the most suitable growth temperature range is 15 to 25 degrees Celsius. It grows particularly well in high mountain areas at altitudes between 1,500 and 3,000 meters, where the climate is conducive to its healthy growth and development. Angelica neither tolerates cold nor extreme heat, and extreme fluctuations in temperature may negatively affect its growth. Especially during the growing season at high altitudes, if the temperature frequently exceeds 25 degrees Celsius, it may cause the plants to wilt, the leaves to dry out, and even die.

Soil requirements: Angelica has specific requirements for soil. It is more suitable for growing in deep, loose, fertile and well-drained sandy loam or humus-rich soil. The ideal soil pH should be in the slightly acidic to neutral range of 6.5 to 7.5. It is not suitable to plant angelica in heavy clay, saline or waterlogged low-lying areas, as these soil conditions may hinder the normal growth of its roots.

Light requirements: Angelica prefers a semi-shaded growing environment and avoids strong direct sunlight. During the growth cycle , an appropriate amount of light is necessary to promote its photosynthesis, but strong light may cause growth stress.

2. Planting Method

1. Land preparation

Select land with high terrain, deep soil, loose, fertile and good air permeability, and carry out deep plowing to remove weeds and stones. When preparing the land, apply about 3,000 kg of mature farmyard manure as base fertilizer per mu, and then level and harrow the land to form ridges 1 to 1.2 meters wide. For hillsides and high-lying areas, it is recommended to create raised ridges to prevent poor drainage and disease from excessive summer rain.

2. Sowing and raising seedlings

March to April in spring or September to October in autumn are suitable sowing periods. Seeds should be disinfected before sowing to enhance disease resistance and increase germination rate. Sow in rows or holes, cover the soil evenly after sowing and water to keep moist.

3. Field management

Intertillage and weeding: Intertillage and weeding should be carried out in time after seedlings emerge. Shallow tillage is usually required to prevent damage to the root system.

Top dressing: Top dressing should be carried out in a timely manner according to the growth condition of angelica. When the seedlings are about 30 cm tall, apply "seedling fertilizer". The second top dressing should be carried out from late July to early August.

Irrigation and drainage: Keep the soil moderately moist, irrigate in time during drought, and clean the furrows before the rainy season to facilitate drainage and prevent root rot.

4. Pest and disease control

Angelica is susceptible to diseases and pests such as root rot, aphids, and leaf spot. During the planting process, monitoring and prevention should be strengthened, combining biological and chemical control measures. When pests and diseases occur, appropriate pesticides should be selected for prevention and control, and attention should be paid to the method and concentration of use to avoid damage to crops.

5. Harvesting and processing

The growth cycle of angelica is usually 2-3 years. Harvest on a sunny day in autumn from September to October, and be careful when digging to protect the roots. After being cleaned of dirt and leaf residue, they are dried, bundled and further processed. During the processing, attention should be paid to preventing rain and moisture to ensure the quality and medicinal effect of angelica.

The above are the key technologies and conditions for Angelica sinensis cultivation . We hope to provide guidance and help for everyone’s planting work. If you have other needs, please leave a message.
