How to Make Cineraria Bloom for Christmas

How to Make Cineraria Bloom for Christmas

1. Sowing time control

There are different varieties of Cineraria, including early and late flowering varieties, and the flowering period can be controlled by the sowing time. The flowering period is different in different regions. If you are in Beijing, if you want to see beautiful cineraria at Christmas, you should sow the flowers for New Year's Day in March.

2. Flower Bud Differentiation

In addition to sowing time, we can also use other planting measures to delay flowering and promote the differentiation of flower buds. If you stop fertilizing and control the amount of watering in the first two weeks of differentiation, differentiation can be promoted. The temperature at this time should be around 21 degrees Celsius during the day and around 10 degrees at night. Then gradually increase the amount of water and ensure adequate sunlight. After the flower buds come out, just increase the room temperature to promote flowering.

3. Notes

1. Temperature

Cineraria has very high requirements for temperature, with 10 to 15 degrees being the best. But its buds form in cold winters, so controlling the temperature becomes extremely important. After the frost, the temperature in the greenhouse should be kept between 4 degrees Celsius and 16 degrees Celsius. A higher room temperature can make it bloom earlier, but be aware that if the temperature is higher than 25℃, the leaves will easily curl up. If not handled in time, it will be detrimental to the opening of the flowers.

2. Humidity

It is also important to control the humidity of Cineraria. The weather is dry in winter, which usually causes its leaves to wilt, which is not conducive to the growth of leaves, thus affecting the growth of flowers. But if there is too much water and the humidity is too high, the roots, main stems, and leaves will rot, not to mention flowering. Therefore, humidity control is also a science.

3. Fertilization

During the growing period, it is advisable to apply about 2% light cake fertilizer and 1% nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium compound fertilizer once every 7 to 10 days. Alternating these two fertilizers will have better effects and make the flowers grow faster. Be careful not to apply too much nitrogen fertilizer before flowering, control the amount of water used, and the room temperature should not be too high, otherwise it will affect the flowering time.
