How to propagate eagle claw flower

How to propagate eagle claw flower

1. Sowing method

The seeds of eagle claw flower are relatively small. For seeds that are difficult to collect by hand, we can use a toothpick or one end of a stick-shaped tool to wet it in water, then collect these tiny seeds and stick them on the surface of the culture matrix, and then cover it with about 1 cm of matrix, and then put the flowerpot with seeds into the water. The water depth should be about two-thirds of the height of the pot; for larger seeds, you can directly sow the seeds into the culture matrix at a spacing of 3x5 cm, cover them with a layer of matrix after sowing, and then use a sprayer or fine-hole shower to wet the matrix layer, and then water it when the soil in the pot is a little dry. When watering, you should be careful to control the intensity to prevent the seeds from being washed out of the substrate.

2. Cutting method

In late spring and early autumn, the climatic conditions are more suitable. At this time, you can choose relatively tender new branches for cuttings. If you want to propagate in early spring, you can also use old branches from previous years for cuttings. When taking cuttings, you can use peat soil, river sand and other materials as the cutting medium, and if conditions permit, you can prepare nutrient soil. Before cuttings, it is best to disinfect the cutting medium first. Medium-coarse river sand can also be used for cuttings after being rinsed clean. However, river sand in saline-alkali areas cannot be used because of its high salinity, and sea sand cannot be used because of its high salt content.

3. Layering method

Eagle claw flower can also be propagated by pressing branches. Choose relatively strong branches and peel off the skin about 15-30 cm from the top of the branch. The peeled wound is expected to be about one centimeter wide. Then select a piece of film that is 10-20 cm long and 5-8 cm wide, put some wet substrate in it, and then bandage the ring-barked area like bandaging a wound. Finally, tie the upper and lower ends of the film with a rope, and bulge in the middle. It will take about a month for the roots to grow. After that, cut off the branches together with the roots, and it will become a new plant.
