How to Make Poinsettias Bloom on New Year's Day

How to Make Poinsettias Bloom on New Year's Day

1. Flowering period:

It takes about 200 days for it to grow and bloom, which is about 6 months. In other words, if we want to enjoy the graceful beauty of poinsettia flowers on New Year's Day, we have to start preparing half a year in advance. Who says time is long? For friends who like flowers, time is not a problem at all.

2. Regulating the flowering period

1. Control the growth environment:

The ideal flowering temperature for poinsettia is 20-30℃, so if you want poinsettia to bloom even when it is freezing cold, you need to control the temperature. Not only do we humans like warm sunshine, but most plants also cannot live without it. Poinsettia is a complete sunlight lover among plants. It needs a lot of sunshine every day. If there is insufficient sunlight or there is no sunlight for a long time, the leaves will turn yellow. This is not only not conducive to the coloring of the flowers, but may also cause poinsettia to suffer from black spot disease and other diseases that affect the quality of poinsettia. More importantly, sufficient sunlight can greatly advance the flowering period.

2. Control the soil matrix:

As for the soil for planting poinsettia, it is best to use mixed soil with high nutritional value, with a ratio of about 2:1:1 of garden soil: leaf mold: fertilizer. Such mixed soil can provide sufficient nutrients needed by poinsettia. Compared with ordinary soil, poinsettia flowers can absorb more nutrients in the mixed soil, so that the flowering period can be advanced, allowing poinsettia to bloom beautifully during the New Year's Day holiday.

3. About pruning branches and leaves:

If you want your poinsettia to bloom early and keep its flowers bright in color, you must ensure that the flower buds can absorb nutrients to the greatest extent possible, so regular pruning of the branches and leaves is necessary. Prune old leaves and overly dense branches and leaves in time to reduce the energy consumption for growth, so that the flowers can be redder and the leaves can be greener.
