How to breed glutinous rice sticks

How to breed glutinous rice sticks

1. Planting seeds

In November of each year, we can start collecting seeds, and then hide them in the sand during the winter. We can sow them in the spring of the following year. Generally, seedlings will begin to grow slowly 30 to 40 days after planting them. These seedlings can be transplanted after one year.

2. Cuttings

Preparation before cutting: Cutting is a very simple and easy method to implement, and the seedlings grow very fast, so it is often used. The substrate for cuttings is generally some perlite or plain sandy soil. The length depends on the needs of your operation. Before cuttings, we need to disinfect the substrate. It is best to soak the substrate thoroughly. After an hour, you can rinse it with clean water and you can start cuttings the next day.

Preparation of cuttings: Generally, when choosing cuttings, they are selected from branches grown in the current year. Some fully woody ones are needed, with a length of 10 cm. The upper cut should be flat and the lower cut should be horseshoe-shaped. You can keep its two leaves, and just cut half of each leaf. You also need to soak the base of the cuttings in some medicine for 5 minutes, and then soak it in some rooting agent for 10 minutes. After drying slightly, you can start cuttings.

Cuttings: When cuttings, the distance between plants is generally 5 cm to 8 cm, and the depth of cuttings can be 3 cm to 4 cm. After cuttings, spray water as much as possible, and then you can spray every 20 minutes, each time only takes 10 seconds. Also pay attention to shading. You may need to build some shade nets to protect it from damage by the sun and provide full shading.
