Flowering period maintenance of mountain azalea

Flowering period maintenance of mountain azalea

Flowering period control

In fact, it is not completely impossible to control when they bloom. If conditions permit, it can be controlled within a small range. They usually begin to differentiate flower buds in autumn. If they are treated with refrigeration or heating at this time, the time of flowering can be controlled.

If you want them to bloom earlier, you can choose to move them to a greenhouse for cultivation, control the temperature at 20-25℃, and spray water on the leaves frequently. They will bloom in about 45 days. On the contrary, for the same reason, if you want the azalea to bloom later, you can place the azalea that has already formed buds in a place with relatively low temperature, try to keep it at around 3℃. If you place them outdoors in summer or autumn, they will bloom in about half a month.

Flowering period shaping

A very important point to mention here is to thin out the buds, so that the flowers do not oppress each other and compete for limited nutrients. If bud thinning is done in time, their flowers can grow bigger. Not only will the color of each flower be richer, but they will also grow better next year.

Water and fertilizer control during flowering period

Before this plant blooms, usually in September or October, you can add enough phosphorus fertilizer to make the flowers bloom more and better. After the flowers fall, nutrients must be supplemented using a mixture of nitrogen and phosphorus fertilizers. You may not know this little trick. Putting watermelon or tomato pieces into flower pots can also act as fertilizer and improve the quality of the soil and flowers.
