Reproduction method of Rhododendron adenocarpa

Reproduction method of Rhododendron adenocarpa

1. Cutting propagation

This method is a relatively common propagation method in azalea planting. It is usually carried out from May to June. We can cut its relatively sturdy new branches. When cutting, do not cut too long or too short. Generally, it is best to cut about 5 to 8 cm. Then cut off its lower leaves and keep 2 to 3 top leaves as cuttings for cuttings. It is best to treat the base of the cuttings with something that is easier for it to take root. Then cut it in a loose, aerated and acidic soil containing humus. The temperature should be kept between 20 and 25 degrees, because this temperature is more suitable for its growth and development. Then shade it and spray it with water frequently to keep it moist, so that it can grow new roots faster.

2. Propagation of young shoots

This method of softwood propagation is generally used for those more precious azalea varieties that are difficult to survive. We can first cut off its tender branches, generally 3 to 4 cm in length, and then use them as scions. Use a sharp knife to cut its base into a wedge shape, and then use the rhododendron as the rootstock, use tender branches for cleft grafting, and then put it in a relatively cool place, away from strong sunlight, and find some film to tie them up. In addition, you can also use some plastic bags to cover the scion and rootstock together, so that it can keep it well moisturized.

3. Tips

Whether you use the method of cuttings or young branches for propagation, you must pay attention to the temperature and water requirements during propagation. You must avoid damage from pests and diseases and you cannot be careless. And if you want faster reproduction, you usually choose the cutting method. This method is relatively simple, has a very high survival rate, and is easy to operate. Only some varieties that are more difficult to propagate or more expensive will use the control method of young branches.
