How to grow Anthurium? This way of growing flowers will make them colorful and their leaves bright!

How come Anthurium flowers are so colorful?

Generally speaking, if the temperature is too low or there is insufficient sunlight, Anthurium will not bloom easily, or even if it blooms, it will not be bright. Other factors, such as too little water and lack of fertilizer, can also cause Anthurium to bloom less. Therefore, if you want the anthurium to bloom more beautifully, you must do the following:

Scattered Light

Anthurium likes sunlight, but is not suitable for direct sunlight because the leaves will be burned. Therefore, it is best to place the anthurium in a bright, diffused light location, avoiding direct sunlight but not being too shaded. With sufficient diffuse sunlight, the flowers will bloom more brightly.

Keep it moist

Anthurium likes moisture, so you can water it when the surface of the soil in the pot is dry. Water it about once every 2-3 days. Anthurium also has certain requirements for air humidity, so you should also pay attention to spraying water around the leaves. This will ensure that the flowers are bright and full. If the temperature is low, the anthurium will grow slowly. At this time, you should control watering to prevent root rot.

Apply thin fertilizer frequently

Anthurium likes fertilizer very much. It should be fertilized once every two weeks, which can be done at the same time as watering. Apply phosphorus and potassium fertilizers before flowering. The best time to fertilize is

Morning or evening. Fertilize once a month in winter.

In addition, the anthurium also needs some water and fertilizer. Drop one or two drops into the water when watering, once every 3-5 days, and once every half a month in winter.

Do not use foliar fertilizer on anthuriums because it has a waxy coating on the surface that will hinder absorption.

Acidic soil

The soil for Anthurium should be acidic, fertile, and well-drained. You can put some coarse sand, expanded clay or peanut shells at the bottom of the pot. In addition, soil compaction will hinder root respiration and nutrient transport, and will also affect the quality of flowering. Pay attention to loosening the soil and change the pot in time when necessary.

Retain aerial roots

Some of the roots of Anthurium may be exposed above the soil surface. Many flower lovers are afraid that it will be bad for the flowers, so they quickly bury them back. Never do this. These exposed roots are called aerial roots, which are for better absorption of nutrients and breathing. Burying them is equivalent to hindering their breathing and will also cause the flowers to bloom poorly.

What should I do if the leaves of Anthurium turn yellow?

There are many factors that cause the yellow leaves of anthurium, such as light, temperature, ventilation, watering, fertilization, etc. Therefore, when we encounter yellow leaves symptoms, we must carefully identify them and prescribe the right medicine.

Improper lighting

Sometimes the edges of anthurium leaves will become dry, yellow, and have burn marks. This situation is not necessarily caused by excessive sunlight, but may also be caused by long-term uneven lighting. Even in a diffuse light environment, the side that is exposed to light for a long time will be burned.

Therefore, when growing anthuriums indoors, you should rotate the flowerpots frequently. This can prevent one side from getting burned and ensure the beautiful shape of the plant.

Temperature discomfort

Anthurium prefers a milder environment. If the leaves of Anthurium are dark yellow and have no luster, or even fall off in severe cases, this is caused by the temperature being too high or too low.

When the temperature is above 35℃ in summer or below 10℃ in winter, the anthurium should be kept indoors. Maintain a stable growth environment.

Waterlogging and root rot

Waterlogging and root rot can cause the leaves to turn yellow or even partially black, and the plant will become wilful.

We need to stop watering, move the anthurium to a ventilated place, loosen the soil, and wait for the water in the pot to evaporate. Wait until the anthurium recovers and then continue to maintain it normally. If the situation is serious, you need to trim the roots and change the pot.

Poor ventilation

When indoor ventilation is poor, yellow-brown spots will appear on the leaves of anthurium.

In this situation, the yellow leaves need to be cut off in time, otherwise other healthy leaves will also be infected and turn yellow. Then we need to increase ventilation. Usually, you should pay attention to opening the windows more often to ensure air exchange with the outside world.

Lack of nutrients

If the leaves of anthurium start to turn yellow from the edges, they will have yellow spots and fall off easily. This is due to a lack of phosphorus and nitrogen fertilizers. You can apply some crushed egg shells and rotted rice water.

Pests and diseases

In fact, many diseases are caused by improper water and fertilizer and insufficient ventilation. Generally, as long as you maintain the plants correctly, you can avoid diseases and pests. But if it happens, how can we save it?

▷Diseases:

There are two most common diseases of anthurium: leaf spot and anthracnose. You can spray or soak the pot with a solution of thiophanate-methyl to eliminate the problem quickly.

▷ Pests:

If it is a nematode or scale insect, you can use a broad-spectrum insecticide or pyrethroid to spray it, which is very effective.

If it is a red spider, you can spray some flower protector or mite cleaner.

If the situation is not serious, you can directly spray the detergent water.
