How to fertilize gourd

How to fertilize gourd

Early basal fertilizer

Before sowing gourd seeds into flowerpots, you need to apply a layer of organic fertilizer at the bottom of the potting soil. It is mainly a mixture of fertilizers such as animal manure, plus some compound fertilizers rich in nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium. These mixtures placed under the soil in the pots are called base fertilizers, which are important nutrients that help the seeds grow strong and tall after germination.

Late topdressing

Growth period

After the seedling stage, the gourd plant begins to accelerate its growth rate, basically changing every day. At this time, it will inevitably need a large amount of water and fertilizer, so you can add some phosphorus fertilizer and potassium fertilizer. The dosage is determined by the size of the flowerpot and the number and density of plants. Generally, the amount at this time will be more than the seedling stage, but because there is relatively little soil in the flowerpot, you must be careful not to apply too much fertilizer and burn the roots of the plant, causing adverse effects.

Flowering period

During the flowering period, not only should the amount of water be reduced in time, but there is also no need to add too much fertilizer for the time being. The most critical period for fertilizer supply is after the short flowering period.

Results

Whether the gourd grows plump and smooth or dry and rough depends on the timely supply of water and fertilizer. Generally, in addition to the fertilizers mentioned above, some nitrogen fertilizers should be added at this time. Only in this way can sufficient nutrient supply of nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium grow enlarged and beautiful small gourds. However, one thing is that when applying nitrogen fertilizer, it needs to be buried deep in the soil of the flowerpot, and the roots should not be directly exposed to it.
