Want to do layering, cuttings, and grafting but don’t have the tools? One roll of toilet paper is enough

1. Layering

Using toilet paper for high-altitude layering can promote the growth of flower roots, such as gardenia, rose, osmanthus, etc. Next, Huahua will talk about the specific usage of toilet paper.

1. Prepare the toilet paper commonly used in daily life, fold it in half and fold it into small pieces.

2. Peel off the skin of the flower branches used for layering, with a width of about one centimeter.

3. Prepare some rooting powder and cotton swabs, dissolve the rooting powder with a little water, and dip the cotton swab in the rooting liquid and apply it to the peeled area.

4. Use toilet paper to wrap the peeled part of the squid, and use a spray bottle to spray water on the wrapped area to fully soak the toilet paper. Prepare plastic wrap or a plastic bag to wrap the toilet paper, and tie it with a thin rope or cloth strip, but don't tie it too tightly.

5. Find some newspapers and use them to cover the plastic wrap again. Or you can wrap the flower branches with some black cloth or something that can block out light to speed up the growth of the flower branches' roots.

6. Spray the flower branches with water every three or four days, and wait for a month before you find roots growing out of the flower branches.

7. At this time, you should cut off the rooted flower branches with a sterilized utility knife and insert them directly into the culture soil. Place the flower pot in a cool place, keep it ventilated, wait for a week, and then you can maintain it as usual.

2. Soilless cuttings

Friends who have done cuttings know that the most critical and troublesome point in cuttings is to confirm whether the cuttings have grown roots. Some people may pull the cuttings out of the culture soil to have a look, but Huahua does not recommend this practice. Huahua can understand your eagerness for the cuttings to take root, but this approach will be counterproductive and will most likely hinder the growth and development of the cuttings' root system. So what should we do? Huahua will share with you a method of soilless cuttings. Friends who are interested can give it a try.

When we are doing cuttings, sometimes we have no way to judge whether they have taken root, and we can only keep taking the branches out of the soil, which results in the cuttings not taking root. Today Huahua will teach you a soilless cutting method.

1. Prepare paper towels, cuttings and plastic bottles for daily use (punch a few holes in the bottle caps to allow ventilation).

2. Wrap the lower part of the cuttings with paper towels, but be careful not to wrap it too tightly, leaving space for the roots of the cuttings to stretch and grow. Wet the paper towels with a spray bottle.

3. Wrap the rest of the cuttings with paper towels, leaving the buds exposed to facilitate germination.

4. Put the cuttings in a plastic bottle and take it to a cool place and keep it ventilated. Spray some water into the plastic bottle every few days to keep the cuttings moist.

5. Basically, the cuttings will grow roots in about ten days, and then they can be planted in pots. The reason for faster rooting is that higher air humidity is ensured.

3. Rootless Grafting

Paper towels are relatively clean and hygienic, have excellent moisturizing properties, and are less likely to infect plants with pathogens. Therefore, the use of paper towels for grafting can greatly improve the rooting speed and survival rate of the plants.

1. Select relatively sturdy branches, prepare a sterilized utility knife, transparent tape, a fresh-keeping box and daily paper towels.

2. Embed the branches and wrap both ends of the branches with moistened paper towels.

3. Place seven or eight layers of paper towels at the bottom of the fresh-keeping box as a paper bed. Use a spray bottle to spray water to moisten the paper bed. Place the grafted branches on the paper bed with the buds facing upwards and arranged neatly.

4. Cover the lid and place it in the dark for a week to allow the healing tissue of the wound and the healing tissue at both ends of the branch to grow quickly. Observe the healing of the bud graft after about a week. If the healing is good, you can place it in diffuse light and wait for rooting. After about 2 months, roots began to grow.
