How to propagate golden cypress

sowing

If you want to obtain the seeds of golden cypress, you have to collect the seeds grown that year around November. After collecting, soak the seeds in disinfectant for about half an hour, rinse them with cold water, and place them in a constant temperature environment of about 4℃ to 6℃. By the beginning of the second year, about 100 days, the seeds will break through the skin and sprout new ones. This is the best time to sow. Pay attention to the spacing when sowing, and sow as loosely as possible if conditions permit. Sow the seeds on the soil, cover the surface with a 1 cm to 1.5 cm thick layer of soil, then cover the top of the soil with straw, and keep the soil moist. When the sprouts grow to 20 cm, they can be transplanted.

Cuttings

Golden cypress can be propagated by cuttings at any time of the year, but the best time is between March and April or August, which is conducive to the success rate and growth rate of the cuttings. New roots will grow in about two months after cuttings. If they are grown in autumn and winter, the rooting will be slower. When taking cuttings, choose branches that are more than 2 years old, and the length should be about 30 cm. Before cutting, the soil should be fertilized and watered. Wait until all the water has seeped out and there is no water accumulation, then you can insert the branches into the soil, 20 cm deep. The soil should be compacted. Cover it with a layer of soil about 5 cm thick, and the cuttings are completed. The survival rate can reach over 90%.
