Factors affecting watering

It is really difficult to give a clear answer to the question of how to water roses. There are many factors that affect the watering of roses, such as the looseness of the potting soil, the placement of the pot, climatic conditions, seasonal changes, the size of the pot, the growth conditions of the plant, etc. Any change in any of these will affect the number and amount of watering.

Differences in watering seasons

In spring, the humidity increases and the temperature is lower. The plants are still in the recovery period, and the moisture in the potting soil decreases very slowly. The watering cycle is relatively longer. Generally, check the potting soil every 15 days or so to see if watering is needed.

In summer, the humidity is low and the temperature is high, the plants grow vigorously, the soil dries quickly, and the watering cycle is relatively short. Water the soil about once every 10 days, and check the soil frequently to see if it is dry or wet and sprinkle water to increase humidity.

In autumn and winter, the temperature is lower, actually similar to that in spring. When the temperature is too low in winter, reduce watering and keep the soil in the pot dry.

There is a difference between indoor and outdoor watering

In the same season, there will be differences in watering time indoors and outdoors due to different temperature differences. The outdoor watering time is shorter, while the indoor watering time is longer.

The moisture content of the potting soil of the same plant will be different during the growing season and dormant period. The potting soil will dries faster during the growing season than during the dormant period. Therefore, it is difficult to give a definite answer as to how many days to water.

Watering basis

When watering roses, if the surface soil in the pot feels white or cracked, it means that the soil in the pot is dry and it is time to water it; if the surface soil feels moist, it means that the soil in the pot is still very wet and cannot be watered, as watering will easily cause root rot and death.

This makes it easy to judge the time to water, and it is less likely to cause root rot after watering. This watering method is more applicable and is not likely to cause root rot due to watering.
