Seeding propagation method of white sandalwood

Seed propagation of white sandalwood

Seed collection and processing

The fruits of white sandalwood are usually picked in July every year. After removing the pulp, the seeds can be stored in sand for three months and can be sown in spring.

The seeds can be soaked before sowing. Sandalwood seeds have good water permeability. After soaking for 24 hours, the water absorption of the seeds can reach 30% to 40%.

Site selection

When sowing sandalwood, you should choose a nursery site that is sheltered from the wind, cool, flat, and easily irrigated. The soil should preferably be loose and moist sandy loam.

Sowing at the right time

The seed propagation of sandalwood can be carried out in mid-to-late April, using manual broadcasting or row sowing. First apply well-rotted base fertilizer at the bottom of the ditch, cover the soil and then sow the seeds. After sowing, cover the soil shallowly. You can cover it with straw to keep moisture in and suppress weeds.

Management and maintenance

After the seedlings emerge from the soil, weeds should be removed in time and dilute fertilizer and water should be applied to promote the growth of seedlings. During the vigorous growth period of seedlings, weeding should be done frequently and more nitrogen fertilizer should be applied. In the rainy season, ditches should be dug to drain water to prevent water accumulation and root damage during rainy days. In the later stage of seedling growth, the application of potassium fertilizer should be increased to promote the lignification of seedlings.
