Cutting method of Daphne koreana

Cutting method of Daphne koreana

Selection of soil for cuttings of Daphne koreana

When we use the cutting propagation method to propagate Osmanthus fragrans, the choice of soil is very important.

We can choose soil that is very rich in nutrient and humus, and choose loose soil that can facilitate drainage and prevent root rot, which is beneficial to the growth of Osmanthus fragrans cuttings. In order to prepare such soil, we can mix slightly acidic leaf mold and sand and gravel. Such soil is very conducive to the growth of Osmanthus fragrans cuttings.

Selection of cuttings for Osmanthus fragrans

Of course, we must choose healthy and well-grown Osmanthus fragrans branches as cuttings, and pay attention to whether the Osmanthus fragrans plants we choose have diseases and insect pests. Osmanthus fragrans with diseases and insect pests are not suitable as cuttings for cutting propagation. If you choose old branches for cuttings, it is suitable to do so before the spring buds sprout. If you choose young branches for cuttings, it is suitable to do so in June and July.

Cutting method of Daphne koreana

After we prepare the soil for the propagation of Osmanthus fragrans by cuttings, we need to prepare the branches for cuttings.

If we do cuttings in spring, we should cut off the top of the Osmanthus fragrans branches about eight to ten centimeters, retaining some leaves on the top of the branches. If conditions permit, we can dip some rooting powder, which can promote the rooting of the cuttings. Keep the soil slightly dry, and after inserting the branches into the soil, immediately water them thoroughly. They will take root in about twenty days. Cuttings can also be carried out in summer. The cutting method is the same as that in spring, except that the soil should be slightly dry after cuttings. On the other hand, water the leaves frequently.
