How to propagate grapes by cuttings

How to propagate grapes by cuttings

Cutting method

Small plastic bag cutting film covering method in the sunbed

Choose to carry out cutting work in spring when the soil temperature is around 10-15℃. First, mix chicken manure, sawdust, river sand and garden soil in a certain proportion as culture soil, put it into a small plastic bag with small holes at the bottom. The depth of the culture soil should be about 15 cm. Then soak the three-bud grape branches in clean water overnight, and gently insert them into the prepared culture soil, leaving one bud outside the plastic bag. After burying the plastic bag in the soil, cover it with a layer of film and wait until the seedlings emerge.

Green branch cuttings

It is carried out in June. Choose the new shoots or lateral shoots of the year, and cut semi-lignified 2-3 node long branches from them for cuttings. Keep a green leaf on the top of the cutting. When the leaf is larger, cut it in half. Keep a petiole at other nodes.

Water rooting

Also do it in June, prepare a container of water, such as a canning bottle, insert the cut vines of the year into it, then cut the plastic film into a circular shape about the size of the bottle mouth, and cut a cut to the center of the circle, clamp the grape vines in the middle of the cut, and then fix it with tape. After that, move it to a warmer place. It will take about half a month for the roots to grow. After the roots grow, it can be transplanted into fertile and loose soil.

No rooting cuttings

In spring, take out the stored branches and soak them in clean water indoors for about 6-8 hours. Then cut the branches into cuttings about 20 cm long with 2-3 buds. When cutting cuttings, start from the top, make a flat cut one centimeter above the bud, then make an oblique cut below the bud at the bottom, so that the cut will be in the shape of a "horse ear". The buds at the top of the cuttings should be full and solid. If the first bud is damaged after cutting, the second bud can germinate, which can increase the survival rate of the cuttings.
