How to breed Boer goats

1. Choose high-yielding Bo-mixed ewes

If they are grazed, the small number of lambs produced will not have much impact on the benefits. However, many sheep farmers do not have the conditions for grazing and can only raise them in sheds, which requires relatively high feeding costs. If they can only produce 1 to 2 lambs a year, it will be difficult to make money. Therefore, when breeding is not necessary, Boer-cross ewes with a higher lambing rate should be selected as much as possible. 2. Choose purebred Boer rams

For ewes, try to choose Boer hybrids with higher reproduction rates, and for rams, choose purebred Boer goats that are large, grow fast, and have good genetic performance, so as to better improve the offspring and enhance the production performance of commercial sheep. There is no need to worry about a decrease in the reproduction rate, because the reproduction rate of sheep is mainly controlled by the ewes, and if the rams are healthy, it will not affect the reproduction rate of the ewes. The selected rams should have an adult weight of more than 200 kilograms, high purity, good body shape, good fat condition, good feed intake, and no diseases.

3. Increase the nutritional level of feed

Because Boer goats grow quickly, they require more nutrients. It is difficult to meet their nutritional needs by simply feeding them grass or straw. When raising Boer goats, you must pay attention to feeding, especially for lambs and fattening sheep in their peak growth period. In summer, low-concentration liquid medicine such as dichlorvos, amitraz, and phoxim can be used for body spraying for deworming. In autumn, ivermectin + albendazole are used for combined deworming.
