How to propagate Chinese rose by sowing

Treatment of rose before sowing

Rose plants have the characteristic of dormancy, which is mainly because the fruit peel and seed coat contain some inhibitors that cause them to dormant.

Since rose seeds are dormant, they cannot germinate in time after being harvested. They must be processed before sowing to make them germinate. They can be stored in sand. Put the seeds in moist sand, put them in a container, then cover them with 3 cm thick wet sand, keep the temperature around 0℃ for 2-3 months, and then sow them.

How to propagate Chinese rose by sowing

Sowing needs to be carried out when the temperature is 5℃-10℃. You can sow in spots, rows or pots, and keep the seeds 3cm apart. After sowing, cover the seeds with a layer of plain sand and then water them thoroughly. Generally, seedlings will emerge about 40 days after sowing.

Precautions for rose seed propagation

Before sowing roses, you first need to collect seeds. In November, cut the ripe fruits, store them in sand, and sow them in January or February of the following year. Germination should be carried out before sowing, and then sowing can be done after germination. When sowing, use river sand as the substrate. The river sand must be disinfected before sowing. Be careful when watering after sowing. It is better to spray water with a kettle.

When the rose seedlings continue to grow, they can be transplanted when they have 3-5 leaves. Transplant the rose seedlings into small pots and then carry out normal management.
