Planting technology and cultivation management of golden thread vine

As a precious medicinal material, the wild resources of golden thread vine are gradually decreasing due to over-exploitation, resulting in a decrease in supply in the market and a subsequent surge in prices. Now many friends are planning to artificially cultivate golden thread vine. Golden thread vine prefers a warm environment and is not tolerant to waterlogging, so it is suitable to grow in conditions where the temperature is not lower than 20°C to avoid frost damage. Let’s learn about the planting techniques and cultivation management of golden thread vine .

1. Seedling preparation

1. Seedling selection

Given the high density and quantity requirements for understory planting of golden thread vine, choosing healthy and strong factory-grown tissue culture seedlings is the best option. First, determine the required varieties based on market demand, and then select high-quality seedlings.

2. Hardening of seedlings

Hardening the tissue culture seedlings is an essential step before transplanting them to the forest floor for planting. Place the culture bottle outdoors in a well-ventilated environment with a temperature between 15 and 25 degrees Celsius, avoiding direct sunlight, for 3 days. Starting from the 4th day, gradually loosen the bottle cap and continue for 4 days, then open the cap at a suitable temperature for 7 days (if the temperature exceeds 25℃, shorten to 3 days). The hardening process lasts until the seedlings adapt to the natural environment, as evidenced by dark green leaves and vigorous growth.

2. Understory Planting

Before transplanting, the tissue culture seedlings are carefully handled, including cleaning, rinsing, spraying, disinfecting and packing. The specific steps are: gently take out the culture medium and seedlings, wash with water to remove the agar blocks, place them neatly in the seedling frame and rinse; spray with running water for 1 to 2 minutes and dry them slightly. Then disinfect with 1000 times diluted carbendazim solution for 10 minutes, remove the bacteria and let it dry slightly. Put the disinfected seedlings into sterilized cartons or foam boxes. Make sure to separate each layer with clean newspapers and keep the total height within 40 cm to avoid compression damage.

The day before transplanting, spray the soil with water to adjust the soil moisture content to 50% to 60%, and then wait for the soil surface to dry in the shade. The treated tissue culture seedlings were planted individually with a spacing of 3 to 5 cm in the rows and plants, and the depth was controlled at 1.5 to 2.0 cm. After planting, water was immediately irrigated to allow the roots to take root.

3. Management during the growth period

1. Water and fertilizer regulation

According to the growth stage, climatic conditions and soil moisture conditions of golden thread vine, timely irrigation and drainage should be implemented to maintain good soil aeration. Spray once every two days in the evening in summer, spray once every 7-10 days in spring and autumn, increase the spraying frequency in the dry season and high temperature season according to the degree of soil dryness, and keep the soil moisture content at 60%-80%. The spraying time is scheduled before 9 am in summer and in the afternoon when the temperature is higher in winter or early spring. In the rainy season, attention should be paid to drainage to avoid water accumulation. Since the soil organic matter content in the planting area is high, fertilization is generally not required. However, if the soil humus content is insufficient, organic fertilizer should be applied in appropriate amounts, and chemical fertilizers should be used reasonably according to the growth characteristics of golden thread vine.

2. Light control

According to weather changes, monitor and control the light intensity under the forest at around 30001x. Increase shade when the temperature is high and the light is strong to prevent the golden thread vine from being burned by strong light.

3. Control of major pests

Adopt a comprehensive prevention and control strategy, adhere to the principle of prevention first and comprehensive prevention and control, give priority to agricultural, physical and biological control methods, and use chemical control as an auxiliary means.

When applying pesticides , relevant laws and regulations should be followed, and high-efficiency, low-toxicity and low-residue pesticides should be selected to reduce the impact on the environment.

Disease control: For stem rot and anthracnose, preventive measures such as cultivating sterile test tube seedlings, soil and environmental disinfection, reasonable layout, and timely removal of diseased plants are taken, and pesticides such as chlorothalonil, alum or carbendazim are used for prevention and control.

Pest control: Combine physical inspection and pesticides , such as cleaning the planting area, manual killing, using metaldehyde to control mollusks, cypermethrin to control red spider mites, and imidacloprid to control leafhoppers.

Weeding: Manually remove weeds in time after all seedlings have grown.

4. Harvest and Post-harvest Processing

Harvesting time: 200-230 days after planting, when the plant height is 10-12cm, choose a sunny day to harvest after the dew has dried up. The annual harvesting time is March-May and October-December.

Harvesting method: The whole plant is harvested manually, and sick and weak plants are removed.

Post-harvest processing: Use high-pressure spray to clean, air dry or low-temperature dry, and ensure that the moisture content of the dried product is 10%-12%.

Packaging: After being sterilized by ultraviolet light, the product is packaged in vacuum or filled with CO2.

Storage: Store in a sealed container to prevent moisture, insects, mildew and contamination. For long-term storage, place in a refrigerator at 3-5℃.

The above are the cultivation and management measures for golden thread vine. You can refer to them and learn from them. Only by mastering comprehensive golden thread vine cultivation techniques can we ensure the healthy growth of golden thread vine and improve its yield and quality.
