How to propagate Buddha's hand by grafting

Grafting method of Buddha's hand

Adjoining method

It is usually carried out in August or early September. For the selection of rootstock, it is best to choose a sturdy 4-5 year old plant with a stem diameter of 2-3 cm. Cut off some of the branches below the base of the stem, leaving only one, then peel off some of the bark downwards, and then choose annual branches in spring and autumn as scion, about 5-7 cm long and roughly the same thickness as the rootstock. Similarly, peel off part of the bark below, and then put the cut surface of the rootstock and the cut surface of the scion together, fit tightly, and tie the middle with plastic film. It will heal in about a week. After that, you can cut off the part of the rootstock above the interface.

Cut-belly grafting

It is carried out in early and mid-March. Choose the rootstock 5-7 cm above the ground, cut it flat and cut it with the help of a grafting knife. Choose a slightly woody and smooth part as the bevel, about 1-1.5 cm deep. Keep 2-3 bud scions and cut the lower end into a wedge shape, about 1-1.5 cm long. Then align one side of the rootstock cut with the scion cut, insert it tightly into the rootstock cut, and then tie it up with plastic film. It will heal and sprout after about half a month. Then the soil loosening and weeding work needs to be done. After 45-60 days, when the shoots begin to grow, the wrapping needs to be removed, otherwise the new shoots will easily bend.
