How to propagate bamboo palm

The propagation of bamboo palm can be done by sowing or division. Home cultivation usually relies mainly on division.

Seed propagation of bamboo palm

Choose loose and permeable soil as the sowing medium, usually a mixture of leaf mold and river sand. Before sowing the seeds, you can soak them in warm water (30~35℃ warm water for two days) and then sow them when the seeds begin to germinate. Because its germination is usually uneven, the soil should be slightly deeper after sowing. Generally, it will germinate 1 to 2 months after sowing, and the germination rate can reach about 80%. The seedlings can be transplanted when their cotyledons are 8 to 10 cm long. It should be noted that when transplanting, 3-5 plants must be planted in a clump to facilitate survival and growth.

Division propagation of bamboo palm

It is usually done in spring, combined with repotting. The original plant clusters with many suckers are cut into several clusters with a knife. Try to avoid damaging the roots and buds when cutting. Make sure each cluster contains more than 8 to 10 plants, otherwise it will affect their growth and the ornamental effect will be poor. After the division is potted, place it in a semi-shaded place, keep it moist, and spray water on the leaves frequently to prevent the leaves from withering and yellowing. After new branches sprout, move it to a sunny place for maintenance, and then carry out normal management.
