The correct breeding method of yellow bone fish

The correct breeding method of yellow bone fish

Yellow bone fish, also known as yellow catfish , is a delicious freshwater fish. Wild resources are currently very scarce, and it mainly relies on artificial breeding. In fact, it is not difficult to raise yellow bone fish well. Feed it with scientific feed , understand its habits, manage it properly, develop good eating habits every day, and improve breeding efficiency. Let’s talk about the correct breeding method of yellow bone fish.

1. Pond Preparation

The selected pond should be close to a water source, have sufficient water, be easy to drain and irrigate, and have no pollution sources around it. The pond area is customized according to the needs of farmers, generally 5 to 10 acres, with a water depth of about 1.5 meters, a flat bottom, and clay loam is preferred. The pool should be equipped with electromechanical equipment such as oxygenation, feeding, and pumping.

2. Water quality conditions

Water quality standards: The water quality must meet the standards for aquaculture water, and the transparency of the pond water must be maintained above 35 cm.

PH value and dissolved oxygen content: The PH value of the water body should be between 7.0 and 8.5. There should be a certain amount of oxygen in the water body. At the same time, the water temperature should be maintained between 22℃ and 28℃, which is the most suitable water temperature for the growth of yellow catfish.

Oxygenation equipment: The aerator should be turned on regularly during the breeding process to increase the dissolved oxygen in the water.

3. Fish stocking

The stocking specifications of yellow catfish fingerlings are 15-20 grams per fish, with a density of 6,000-8,000 fish per mu, and the time is April. It is also necessary to stock 150 to 200 silver carp and bighead carp weighing 50 grams per fish per mu in May. Before entering the pond, the fish need to be soaked in 3% to 4% salt water for 5 to 10 minutes to kill bacteria and parasites on the body surface.

4. Feed selection

Natural bait: Yellow catfish is a mild carnivorous fish. In natural waters, it mainly feeds on shrimps, aquatic insects, aquatic plants , etc.

Artificial bait: Artificial bait is the main type of feed currently used in yellow catfish farming. Its advantages are controllable ingredients, rich nutrition, and the ability to meet the special needs of yellow catfish at different growth stages. Common ones include artificial compound feeds , which are fed at regular times, fixed locations, fixed quality and fixed quantities. The daily feed accounts for about 5% of the fish's body weight, twice a day, 1/3 in the morning and 2/3 in the afternoon.

5. Water quality regulation

Add new water once every 7 to 10 days, adding 20 cm of water each time; change the water once every 15 to 20 days, changing 20% to 30% of the water each time. Use quicklime and EM bacteria (compound biological agent) alternately once every 10 to 15 days, with the dosage of 10 to 15 kg/mu and 1 to 1.5 kg/mu respectively, to improve water quality and bottom quality. Turn on the aerator in time to keep the dissolved oxygen in the pool water above 5 mg/L12.

6. Disease prevention and control

Yellow catfish has strong disease resistance and rarely gets sick during breeding. However, since the fish has no scales on its body and relies entirely on skin mucus for protection, if it is not handled carefully, and sometimes fed improperly, in poor water quality conditions, it may cause enteritis, saprolegniasis, trichodiniasis, etc. Specific prevention and control methods include adding 0.1% fresh garlic juice to the feed and feeding it regularly for prevention, as well as using specific drugs for treatment when the disease occurs.
