How to propagate weeping begonia

Cutting propagation method

The weeping crabapple is generally propagated by cuttings, which can be divided into spring cuttings and summer cuttings. Spring planting is usually carried out around the Waking of Insects.

Fill the flowerpot with sandy soil, and insert the side branches cut from the main body (usually 12-16 cm in length) into the soil to a depth of half the soil layer.

Press the soil slightly firmly, water it thoroughly, place it in a cool and ventilated place, and keep the soil in the pot moist.

Division propagation

The division method is simpler.

When the mother plant of the weeping crabapple sprouts in March every spring, separate the small buds that sprout from the roots, protect the growing roots, and place them directly in new potting soil to let them grow.

Layering

When layering weeping crabapple, it is best to do it in the dog days of summer.

Select several small branches near the root of the mother plant, twist them and bury them in the soil to a depth of about 15 cm, leaving most of the top of the branches exposed above the ground. Wait until the Qingming Festival of the following year, then you can put it into a pot alone.

Maintenance tips for weeping begonia

Moisture

Weeping crabapple needs sufficient water during its growing period and should be watered more often in spring and summer. The amount of watering should be controlled in autumn, and watering should be done thoroughly when the surface of the soil in the pot is dry.

fertilizer

During the growing period, the principle of "thin fertilizer and frequent application" should be followed, and thin fertilizer should be applied every month. Phosphorus fertilizer can be added during the bud stage to promote the increase of weeping crabapple flowers. After the leaves fall in autumn and the plant enters a dormant period, fertilization should be stopped. Wait until the plant sprouts in the spring of next year before fertilizing and maintaining it.
