Songmei repotting and precautions

Songmei repotting and precautions

Why should Songmei be repotted?

Songmei needs to be repotted during its growth process. This is mostly because Songmei grows too fast, reproduces too many plants, has a huge root system, and the capacity of the flowerpot is small, so it is filled with the roots.

Another point is that the Songmei has been growing in the original flowerpot for too long, and the soil in the pot is old and has lost nutrients. These are all factors that are not conducive to the root growth of Songmei.

When propagating by division, the Songmei needs to be removed from the soil and pot, and then repotted. In addition, the growers may have their own reasons, such as wanting to change to new pots, enhance the ornamental value, etc.

Songmei is generally repotted every 2-3 years, and division propagation can be carried out at the same time.

How to repot Songmei

When repotting the Songmei, you need to remove the pot and soil first. Gently tap the pot, pour the Songmei out of the pot, remove the soil, and then decide whether to divide the plant depending on the growth condition of the Songmei.

Choose a suitable flowerpot, such as a clay pot. The pot should not be too big, just enough to ensure that the roots of the Songmei can stretch out in the pot. New flower pots need to be soaked in water for 2 days, and old flower pots need to be disinfected before use.

When potting Songmei, you need to choose suitable culture soil. First, put some broken tiles at the bottom of the pot, and then add coarse sand. Stretch the roots of the Songmei plant into the pot, cover them with a layer of culture soil, and add some base fertilizer appropriately. Water the Songmei potted plant and place it in a cool place for maintenance.
