Phalaenopsis cultivation method

1. Pot soil selection

Choose a larger pot with a diameter of about 30 cm and make sure there is good drainage at the bottom to avoid water accumulation. Use loose and breathable soil, and add leaf mold and peat soil when planting to enhance the soil's air permeability and water retention. Lay small rocks in the bottom of the pot to increase drainage, and cover the soil with a layer of moss to retain moisture. If repotting is necessary, late May is the best time, as the plant recovers quickly and the risk of disease is low.

2. Watering method

Phalaenopsis needs to be watered twice a week during the growing season to keep the soil slightly moist. Spray water around the plants to increase humidity, and pay attention to indoor ventilation. Phalaenopsis can be moved outdoors in warm seasons to enjoy the sunshine, but when the temperature exceeds 25 degrees, it should be moved back indoors. Avoid watering at night in spring to prevent low temperatures from affecting flowering. The best time to water is at noon to ensure the right temperature.

3. Fertilization techniques

Fertilizer is the key to promoting the lush growth of Phalaenopsis. It is not advisable to fertilize Phalaenopsis orchids that have been newly repotted or have damaged roots immediately. Wait until new leaves grow in spring or after repotting, then start fertilizing once every two weeks to replenish the nutrients needed for flowering. When the temperature exceeds 35 degrees, especially in summer, fertilization should be stopped to avoid root rot.

4. Pruning points

After the flower buds wither, prune them in time to reduce nutrient consumption. If the roots grow out of the pot, it means that the pot needs to be changed. You can cut off the roots together with the upper part and divide them into two parts. Plant them in different pots respectively. After careful care, they will take root and sprout soon.
