How to promote the flowering of Monstera in northern regions

Growth habits of Monstera

Monstera is native to Mexico and often grows on tall trees in tropical rain forests. It likes warm and humid environment, and avoids strong sunlight and dryness. The suitable temperature for growth is 20-25℃. In the place of origin of Monstera, it blooms fresh and beautiful flowers every summer.

The dilemma of Monstera flowering in my country

However, my country's cold and dry winters and hot and humid summers are not suitable for the good growth of Monstera, especially in the northern regions, where it is rare to see Monstera bloom. There is a saying among the people that "When Monstera blooms, it is as rare as the iron tree". Some people have been raising a Monstera for more than ten years and it still hasn't bloomed. Some people even think that Monstera is a plant that only grows leaves but does not bloom.

Although it is difficult for Monstera to bloom in the north, some people have taken good care of it and made it bloom year after year, breaking the saying that Monstera cannot bloom in northern China. What they do is to make good use of the aerial roots of Monstera, so that the Monstera absorbs more nutrients, the plant becomes strong and grows well, and it is natural for it to bloom.

How to promote the flowering of Monstera

The specific method is that after the aerial roots of Monstera deliciosa grow out, they are gradually led into the potting soil, and the fibrous roots grown by the aerial roots in the potting soil are used to absorb nutrients and water, thereby accelerating the growth of the plant.

If the stem is long, you can bury the aerial roots in another flowerpot. In this way, a Monstera plant can have the nutrients and water of two or three pots of soil to supply its growth.

When the temperature rises and the air humidity is high in August, it will bud and bloom, and the flowering period can last for more than two months.

Cut off dead flowers in time to prevent them from forming seeds (the temperature in the north gradually drops after October, and the seeds are not easy to mature), so as to accumulate more energy and prepare for flowering next year.
