Cutting propagation method of goldfish spider plant

Cutting propagation method of goldfish spider plant

What are the methods?

There are three methods for propagating goldfish spider plants: sowing propagation, division propagation and cutting propagation. However, since the seeds of the goldfish spider plant are not easy to obtain, it is rarely propagated by sowing. It is generally propagated by cuttings.

Cuttings

Cutting propagation is divided into top branch cuttings and stem cutting cuttings. Cutting propagation of Chlorophytum comosum can be carried out throughout the year, and it is best to do it indoors after flowering. Cut one-year-old branches about 10 to 15 cm long, retain 3-4 leaves, remove several pairs of leaflets at the base, and insert them into a plug bed made of river sand or vermiculite. Maintain high humidity and a relatively stable temperature. You can cover the cuttings with glass or plastic film and control the temperature at around 20°C. At the same time, maintain a high air humidity. It will take about 3 to 4 weeks for the roots to grow.

After it takes root and survives, you need to strengthen the maintenance and management of the goldfish spider plant to promote the growth of new branches. Start pinching the top two months after it survives to encourage more branching and facilitate more flowering. After 1-2 months, it can be planted in pots. The seedlings do not bloom in the first year, but after two or three years, orange-red flowers emerge in the leaf axils at the tips of the drooping branches.
