How to choose a flower potNowadays, many players generally use the four types of pots: black square, white square, universal pot, and orchid pot. Players who sow seeds generally use 9-grid or 12-grid seedling boxes, and high-end mass production players use S5. The choice of container still depends on the size of the planted plants, the length of the root system and the growth rate. In fact, I still recommend clay pots and terracotta pots (I prefer purple clay pots, but I guess all the ones you can buy are fake, and I really can't afford them). These types of pots have excellent air permeability. The terracotta pots are beautiful and generous. The clay pots are a little worse, but they are more breathable than terracotta pots, and are suitable for planting tuberous roots and high-end balls. I don't recommend ceramic pots here, except that they must look good overall, I don't like ceramic pots for any plant or place. The biggest disadvantage is that they are not breathable (Black Square and Vientiane pots are better than ceramic ones, at least they have many air holes on the bottom, while ceramics only have one drainage outlet that has to be covered with tiles). Many people like to use ceramic ones for Sedum, because they have a variety of shapes and bright colors. But have you ever thought that when your Sedum has black rot, it has something to do with the container? How to choose pots during growth stagesThe growth of plants is a gradual process. During the growth process, a suitable flower pot is very important. Plants at different growth stages should be matched with pots of appropriate sizes. Some people, in order to save trouble, will use larger pots at the succulent seedling stage (I have seen many people growing fan buds and Vientiane buds), thinking that this can save the trouble of constant changing pots. In fact, this practice is very wrong. Because planting small plants in large pots will affect the absorption of nutrients by the plants. Although there is more soil in the large pot, its fertility is dispersed, and the small plant has a smaller root system and only occupies the upper part of the potting soil. After each watering and fertilizing, the nutrients will gradually settle at the bottom of the pot along with the water. The smaller roots can only "grab" limited nutrients, resulting in a large loss of nutrients. Another disadvantage of using large pots for small succulents is that because the soil in the pots is large and deep, the flower roots are not breathable and cannot get a normal oxygen supply, which can easily lead to root rot. Additionally, larger plants will not grow well in small pots. Because the flowerpot is small and there is little soil in the pot, the nutrition is insufficient and the plant will grow slowly. Moreover, the growth of the plant's roots is restricted by the flowerpot and coiled around the pot wall. In hot seasons, such roots are easily injured, thus affecting the growth of the entire plant. How to find the right potFinally, let’s talk about how to choose a pot that’s suitable for your plant: For ball-type plants, the depth of the pot is 1 times the diameter of the ball. The larger the ball, the less nutrients and water it consumes. For other types: the diameter of the pot mouth should be 0.5-1.5 times the crown width of the plant (jade fans follow this rule, just one or two circles larger will be fine). |
