How to plant lupine

sowing

method

In real life, lupine is mostly propagated by sowing, either in spring or autumn. The growth of lupine varies slightly at different sowing times. The seeds are sown in March, and the growing period after sowing is midsummer. In a high temperature environment, the growth of lupine seedlings will be inhibited, which may cause some varieties to not bloom, or even bloom sparsely, with short flower spikes, affecting the viewing experience.

Autumn sowing is better than spring sowing. It is usually sown in September to October and will bloom in April to June of the following year. Sowing is mostly done in hole trays, with one seed per tray, and loose, uniform, water-retaining and breathable soil is used for breeding.

Precautions

Lupine seeds are relatively large. To ensure the germination rate, it is best to soak them in warm water before sowing. After sowing, the temperature is controlled at 25℃ and it will germinate in 7 to 10 days.

Cuttings

time

The best time to take cuttings of lupine is in spring, when the flower stems have not yet grown and the plants have sufficient nutrients. Do not do it in late spring to avoid high temperatures and rot of the branches.

method

In spring, cut the newly sprouted branches from the rhizome, with a length of 8 to 10 cm, preferably with a little rhizome (this step can be done in combination with a flowerpot), and directly insert the branches into the cooler sandy soil. Control the temperature appropriately. When it is hot and rainy in summer, pay attention to ventilation and dryness, otherwise the branches will die even if they take root.
