Cutting propagationThe preparation of trumpet creeper usually starts in November and December every year. Strong branches are cut for cuttings. Each branch is 10 to 15 cm long and has 3 nodes, which are then buried in sand. Then wait until March to April of the following spring to do cuttings. In Beijing, it can be done in July to August. Insert the prepared branches directly into the soil. The depth of cuttings is 1/2 of the cuttings. After cuttings, cover the pot with glass to ensure sufficient temperature and humidity. Control the temperature at 23~28℃. The cuttings will take root 20 days after cuttings and can be planted in pots in the spring of the following year. Cuttings in the southern region are not so troublesome. You can directly cut the fresh and tender branches grown that year in the spring, insert them into the soil, control the temperature and humidity, and they will soon take root and survive. Seed propagationThe sowing season for trumpet creeper is spring, but the seeds mature around October. Before sowing, you must carefully select the seeds and soak them in clean water for 2 to 3 days. On the one hand, this can accelerate the germination and increase the germination rate; on the other hand, the seeds floating on the water surface will be eliminated to avoid useless work during sowing. In March, when spring comes and flowers bloom, choose a sunny day to sow the seeds in pots or in seedling trays. Control the humidity and wait for them to germinate and grow leaves before you can plant them in pots! Layering propagationThe layering propagation of Trumpet Creeper is generally carried out in July. Choose thick branches, pull the vines to the surface, bury them with soil in sections, expose the buds, keep the soil moist, and it will take about 50 days to take root. After rooting, cut the branches and dig them out for transplanting. Layering propagation of trumpet creeper is more commonly used in households. For potted trumpet creeper, you can directly pull the branches into another pot, bury the branches, and after they take root, separate the branches from the mother plant. Root division propagationThe prerequisite for root division propagation is that many new seedlings grow on the part of the plant close to the ground. In spring, the seedlings can be dug out and planted. |
