Why do sunflowers face the sun? Do they turn their heads back at night?

1. Why face the sun?

It contains a special auxin that is afraid of light and is mainly distributed on the tip of the stem. Therefore, when the sun shines on it, it will turn its back, and the side facing away from the light will grow and reproduce quickly, while the side facing the light will grow slower and will bend over time. In addition, it is also related to flavonoids and gravity. Flavonoids can hinder cell growth, and the content is higher on the sunny side. Gravity means that the plants will rotate with the sun in the early growth stages and young stages, but not in the later stages.

2. Will you look back suddenly at night?

Sunflowers will not turn their heads suddenly at night. Instead, they will turn back slowly after the sun sets. This is because without light, their auxins will change and redistribute, forcing them to turn back. At around three in the morning, we started heading east and waited for the sun to slowly rise. This phenomenon mainly occurs before the flowers are fully bloomed. After they bloom, they will no longer rotate and will always face the east.
