How to care for orchids when repotting

Wounds should be protected from bacteria

When orchids are repotted or divided, there will inevitably be wounds on the roots. You should first apply fungicide to the wounds to prevent the invasion of pathogens.

Don’t repot too large

Planting small plants in large pots requires a lot of planting materials, which can easily lead to poor ventilation and make watering difficult to control. If too much water is absorbed during watering, the planting material will not dry easily, and bacteria will invade and cause root rot. Therefore, the choice of pot should be based on the size of the orchid. Be careful not to oversize or undersize.

Shallow planting

Do not plant orchids too deep, otherwise they will rot due to long-term moisture. When planting, the roots, base or pseudobulbs must be exposed when filling the planting material.

The roots need to be expanded

When planting orchids, the roots should be spread out evenly and not squeezed together, so that each root can contact the planting material and ventilation is good.

No watering for several days

The roots of newly planted orchids may be injured. Apply fungicide to the wounds and do not water them for 3 to 5 days to achieve the desired effect. It can also promote the growth of new buds and roots.

Avoid strong light

Newly planted orchids must avoid direct sunlight to prevent dehydration and should be placed in a warm and shaded place. Spray can be used to increase the humidity in the air until the orchid resumes normal growth.
