Maintenance methods of fuchsia in four seasons

Maintenance methods

In spring, place the fuchsia on a south, east, or west-facing balcony.

The seeds can be sown when the temperature reaches 20℃ in spring. After sowing, when the seedlings grow 4 leaves, they can be transplanted into a 9 cm diameter pot. It is best to choose soil rich in humus as the potting soil. After potting, water the plants sufficiently and place them in a cool place to allow them to grow for a week before gradually exposing them to sunlight.

In early spring, expose it to sufficient sunlight, and in late spring, provide shade around noon. Watering should also be done when the soil is dry and when the soil is wet. Apply thin liquid fertilizer twice 5 to 10 days after potting. Pinch the seedlings when they grow to 10 cm, and pinch them again when the branches grow 3 to 4 nodes. Keep 5 to 7 branches on each plant to ensure that the plant is plump and there are many flowers.

Summer maintenance methods

In summer, place the fuchsia on the east or north facing balcony.

The flowers have just withered in early summer, so you should pay attention to timely pruning to encourage the sprouting of branches. From late June to September, move the flower pot to a cool and ventilated place, control watering, stop fertilizing, and frequently sprinkle water on the ground and spray water on the leaves to reduce temperature and increase humidity to help it safely spend the summer. In fact, when the temperature is too high, the fuchsia is in a semi-dormant state and grows slowly. As long as it is not exposed to excessive sunlight, it will continue to grow after summer.

Autumn maintenance methods

In autumn, place the fuchsia on a south, east or west facing balcony.

After autumn, see more scattered light in the morning and evening. After mid-autumn, gradually increase the light. In late autumn, cultivate it under half light to facilitate luxuriant branches and leaves and colorful flowers. Pruning is needed again in late August. Dead branches, dense and sparse branches, and overly long branches should be cut short, leaving each side branch only 3 to 5 cm long. After new buds sprout, select 5 to 7 strong buds and cut off the rest. It will bloom again between October and November.

In northern areas, it can be brought indoors in mid-October and repotted after bringing in. When repotting, the plant should be taken out of the original pot, some of the old soil should be removed, weak and diseased branches should be cut off, and then it should be planted in a larger pot filled with new culture soil.

Winter maintenance methods

In winter, place the fuchsia on a south or east-facing balcony.

Place it in a well-lit place indoors and ensure good ventilation. The room temperature can be controlled above 5℃ and it can safely overwinter. In a room with heating equipment, the room temperature should be controlled at 15~20℃, apply thin fertilizer and water once every half a month, and keep the soil in the pot moist at all times, and the plant can continue to grow and bloom.
