The most suitable temperature for Clematis to dormant is 0-10 degrees Celsius. If the temperature is controlled within this range in winter, the little Clematis will be safe. But clematis is actually very cold-resistant and will not be affected by temperatures as low as -25 degrees Celsius. If you are planting in pots in North China, it is best to wrap the pots with foam or plastic cloth to keep them warm. It is not necessary in other regions.

For clematis planted in the ground, the soil around the roots can be thickened in winter to better protect the root neck. Potted clematis can be moved indoors, but should be placed in garages, balconies, corridors, etc. where the temperature is slightly lower.

Watering

Before the temperature drops below zero, the watering rules for clematis are no different from those in other seasons - don't water unless the soil is dry. Put your finger 4-5 cm into the soil. If it feels moist, there is no need to water. Before the winter freezes, whether it is a potted or ground-planted clematis, it needs to be watered with freezing water once and watered thoroughly.
