How to breed Yamato Nishiki

How to breed Yamato Nishiki

Propagation by cuttings

The propagation rate of Yamato Nishiki is relatively high, but you need to pay attention to two points when propagating the branches:

First, the cut should be smooth to avoid causing too many wounds that affect the cutting effect.

Second, after cutting the branches, let them dry in a cool place for a while. After the wound heals, insert them or place them squarely in the soil. Generally, they will take root in about 3 weeks.

Leaf cutting propagation

Leaf cutting propagation is the simplest method, but the growth cycle is relatively long.

Remove the leaves from the Yamato Nishiki plant and dry them in a cool place for 1 to 2 days. After the wound has healed, lay them flat in coarse sand or vermiculite so that the wound is in contact with the soil.

Keep the soil moist during the cutting period and place it in a semi-shaded and ventilated place. Small buds will grow after 15 to 20 days. As time goes by, the small buds will grow bigger and bigger, gradually forming a rosette-shaped leaf cluster. When the plant grows to a certain size, it is taken out and planted in a small pot, becoming a new plant.

By using leaf cuttings, you can see the whole process of a leaf sprouting and growing into a plant, which is very interesting.

Cutting propagation

The propagation of the large-scale Hejin is generally done by beheading, cuttings and leaf cuttings. The cut plants can be directly inserted into the soil and given a small amount of water after they have taken root.

For the remaining part, place it in a bright place with scattered light, and side buds will slowly grow. However, it takes a certain amount of time for the side buds to grow. After they grow up, they can be cut and grafted, or grow on the original plant to become a multi-headed Yamato Nishiki.
