When is the best time to sow petunias?

When is the best time to sow petunias?

How to sow seeds

Temperature conditions

The suitable temperature to ensure the smooth germination of petunia is about 18-25℃, and the temperature suitable for further growth of seeds is about 22-34℃. Under normal circumstances, it can germinate in 3-7 days. Flower lovers are advised to create such a temperature environment for petunia sowing, otherwise it will be unknown whether healthy petunias can be successfully grown.

Soil conditions

When choosing soil for sowing, you can use a mixture of culture soil, leaf mold and fine sand that has been sterilized at high temperature. There is no need to cover the soil after sowing. Just press lightly to make the seeds germinate smoothly, which takes about 5-7 days.

Moisture conditions

The seedling soil can be watered thoroughly before sowing, and the seedling soil should also be kept moist after sowing to avoid being too dry and affecting normal germination.

The timing of sowing and the reasons for it

Spring sowing

Although the temperature begins to warm up in spring, petunias tend to grow too tall due to the high rainfall and low sunshine in early spring. Therefore, the best sowing period is late spring and early summer, that is, June and July.

Fall Planting

The autumn sowing time is mainly from October to November. Under normal conditions, it takes about 100 days for petunias to go from sowing to flowering, so flowers can generally be seen in the spring of the following year. However, flower lovers who live in places without heating need to be cautious when sowing at this time, because ensuring that petunias survive the winter smoothly is a difficult task.
