Flowering management methods of Christmas cactus

Flowering management methods of Christmas cactus

In fact, the management of the flowering period of Christmas cactus is not that complicated, just pay attention to the following small details.

Control water and stop fertilizer

water

Christmas cactus is particularly sensitive to water during the flowering period. If watered too much, the buds will easily fall off or even the rootstock will rot. If there is a lack of water, the petals will wilt and the buds will not grow normally. The correct way to water is to keep the soil in the pot slightly moist and not loosen when squeezed by hand. At noon, you can spray clean water near the greenhouse. If the soil in the pot is too dry, do not water it thoroughly at once, but water it gradually.

Fat

Christmas cactus likes fertilizer, and during its growth period, it should be fertilized according to the principle of applying small amounts of fertilizer frequently. But generally speaking, fertilize before flowering and stop fertilizing after the flower buds are basically formed.

Heat preservation and light enhancement

During the flowering period of Christmas cactus, the temperature should be controlled between 14 and 20℃. The flower buds cannot develop normally when the temperature is low. When the temperature is below 5℃, the plant is prone to frostbite and death. Too high temperature can easily shorten the flowering period.

Christmas cactus is a short-day plant, but it requires increased light during the flowering period. Place the plant on a sunny balcony and rotate the pot every 7 days to ensure even flowering. When there is insufficient light indoors or it is cloudy for consecutive days, you can use fluorescent lamps to supplement the light. Turn on the lights for 3 to 4 hours every evening so that the flowers can bloom normally.

Ventilation and insect prevention

The biggest taboo in growing flowers in winter is to keep the plants in a greenhouse and ignore ventilation. Poor ventilation and hot and humid air can easily cause diseases and insect pests. In sunny weather, open windows for ventilation.

The main insect pests during the flowering period of Christmas cactus are aphids and scale insects. In addition to paying attention to ventilation, if insect pests occur, they must be removed manually in time, or sprayed with omethoate solution!

Pay attention to the above three points during the flowering period of Christmas cactus, not only will the flowers bloom beautifully, but the flowering period can also be extended!
