How to propagate hydrangea

Cutting time

The best time for hydrangea cuttings is from May to June, when the temperature is suitable, the light is moderate, everything is just right!

All materials must be prepared before cutting. Choose a flower pot according to the number of cuttings you want. Usually one flower pot has 2 to 3 leaves. You can also prepare a larger flower pot and transplant the cuttings after they survive. Place tiles on the bottom of the prepared flowerpot, fill it with soil and water it thoroughly, and leave it for two days before use.

For seedlings to be grafted, choose strong new shoots from this year, and cut off the lower leaves when they are about 10 to 15 cm long. If conditions permit, you can use carbendazim to disinfect the plants so that they are less likely to get sick.

Cutting method

Use a small wooden stick to poke holes in the soil surface. The main purpose is to loosen the soil so that the soil will not be too hard when cuttings are planted. Insert the branches 3 to 5 cm into the soil and press the surrounding soil firmly.

After cuttings, place the pot in a cool place. Try not to water it too much after cuttings to keep the soil moist. It will take 15 to 20 days for the seeds to take root and survive. Apply fertilizer and water once a month to strengthen the seedlings. They can be transplanted in 2 months.

When the new seedlings grow to a certain height, they should be topped and pinched in time to shorten the tops of the branches to promote the growth of flower buds, so that the plants will have lush branches and abundant flowers.
