How to plant peach pits so that they can germinate?

Don’t throw away the peach pits we have left over. Throw them into a flowerpot and it is easy to grow a small walnut potted plant . The seedlings that grow after sprouting will be very beautiful. So how do you plant peach pits so that they can germinate? Let’s learn more about it below.

1. Peach pit selection

Choose healthy, ripe peach pits, remove the outer flesh, and wash the peach pits. Sometimes cold treatment (sand storage) is necessary to simulate the low temperature conditions in winter and break the dormancy of seeds.

2. Peach pit processing

Before planting, gently knock open the outer shell of the peach pit and remove the outer shell, but do not damage the walnut kernel . Soak the shelled peach kernels in warm water, keeping the water temperature at around 45°C. The outer membrane of the peach kernels will become soft through soaking in water. Then take it out and spread it flat on gauze, and place it in a warm and ventilated place for germination.

3. Pot soil preparation

Use a deep, well-drained pot or box as a planting container. Make sure the container has adequate drainage holes in the bottom to prevent water accumulation. Add a layer of gravel or expanded clay to the bottom of the container to improve drainage. Then fill with loose, fertile, well-drained soil, such as a mixture of peat moss and perlite .

4. Key points for sowing

After the seeds have germinated, sow the peach pits in the prepared potting soil at a depth of about twice the diameter of the peach pits. Keep the soil moist after sowing, but avoid standing water.

5. Post-sowing maintenance

After sowing, peach kernels should be kept in a warm growing environment, watered in time to ensure sufficient moisture, receive a certain degree of scattered light, and maintain a suitable growth temperature. In about a week, the peach kernels will grow tender shoots.

6. Timely transplantation

When the peach seedlings grow to a certain height and have several true leaves, you can consider transplanting them. It can be transplanted into a larger container or outdoor planting site. After the transplant survives, normal maintenance and management can be carried out.

In general, by processing peach pits through the above steps, the germination rate can be effectively improved. In addition, management after sowing is equally important, including watering, lighting, temperature control, etc. If managed improperly, even if the seedlings germinate, it will be difficult for them to grow smoothly and healthily.
