Pinellia ternata planting technology and per mu income

Pinellia ternata planting technology and per mu income

Pinellia ternata is a plant of the Araceae family and a common Chinese herbal medicine. It is mainly distributed in the Yangtze River Basin, Northeast China, North China and other regions, and has good planting prospects. So what are the planting techniques and per-acre yield of Pinellia ternata? Let’s learn more about it below.

Yield per mu of Pinellia ternata cultivation

The market price of Pinellia ternata fluctuates between 30-80 yuan per catty, and the yield per mu is generally between 150-250 kilograms of dry product, depending on the management level and soil conditions. Calculated at the market price of 40 yuan per kilogram, the gross income per mu of land is approximately between 6,000 yuan and 10,000 yuan. After deducting the costs of land rent, seedling purchase, fertilizer , pesticide , labor costs, etc., the basic income per mu is about several thousand yuan. When the market is good, the profit per mu can exceed ten thousand yuan.

Pinellia tuber planting technology

1. Site selection and land preparation

It is best to choose sandy loam rich in humus when planting Pinellia. Before land preparation, apply 2500-4000 kg of well-rotted manure or soil fertilizer and 15-25 kg of superphosphate per mu, mix and compost and use as base fertilizer. Deeply plow the land to a depth of 20 cm, harrow and level it, and make high or flat ridges with a width of 1.2 meters.

2. Breeding method

(1) Tuber propagation: Dig up the tubers after the seedlings are uprooted in June, August and October each year, and select medium or small tubers (small seed tubers are better) with a horizontal diameter of 0.5-10 cm, healthy and free of pests and diseases as seeds. Mix with fine sand and store in a ventilated and cool place, and take out and plant in winter or spring.

(2) Propagation by bulbils: Use the bulbils under the petioles for row planting in summer and autumn, with a row spacing of 10-16 cm and a plant spacing of 6-10 cm. Place 3-5 bulbils in each hole. Cover the soil with a thickness of 1.6 cm and apply mixed fertilizer to promote growth and increase yield.

(3) Seed propagation: When the spathe withers and falls, it can be harvested in time and the seeds can be stored in wet sand. From late March to early April of the second year, choose a warm place facing south, prepare the land and make beds, dig shallow furrows with a row spacing of 10-12 cm, sow the seeds evenly and cover them with soil.

3. Field management

Field management includes tillage and weeding, water and fertilizer management, and pest and disease control. Intertillage weeding requires frequent inspections, timely hand-pulling of weeds, supplemented by shallow tillage (2-3cm) and soiling to protect the root system. In terms of water and fertilizer management, in addition to base fertilizer, topdressing is required multiple times during the growing period, and the type and amount of fertilizer should be adjusted according to the growth stage, while ensuring that the soil is moist but avoiding waterlogging. In terms of disease and pest control, we need to pay attention to leaf spot disease, tuber rot, viral disease and red hawk moth, and take timely prevention and control measures once they are discovered.

4. Harvesting and processing

It is usually harvested in summer and autumn after the stems and leaves wither and the seedlings fall over. After digging it out, put it in a basket, wash off the mud and sand while it is fresh, put it in a sack and knock off the skin, then pour it out, wash the skin with clean water, take it out and dry it to get the raw pinellia.

In general, the profit of one acre of Pinellia ternata land is still quite considerable, of course, this is also inseparable from scientific planting techniques. Only by doing a good job in planting management and ensuring yield and quality can the stability of their income be guaranteed.
