How to grow Agave angustifolia

How to grow Agave angustifolia

1. Soil

It does not have high requirements on soil quality, and it is more appropriate to use loose, fertile sandy loam when planting it. You can also mix some leaf mold into the soil to improve the soil quality and facilitate its growth.

2. Temperature

The most suitable growth temperature for it is 15-25℃, 10-6℃ is best at night, and the temperature difference between day and night should not be too large. The temperature in winter cannot be too low. It is best not to spend the winter outdoors in northern cities. The wintering temperature should be kept above 5℃.

3. Watering

It does not require much water and is drought tolerant. Wait until the soil is dry then water thoroughly. However, water cannot accumulate and the soil cannot be too wet for a long time to avoid root rot. Note that you should stop watering it in winter to ensure that it survives the winter normally.

4. Lighting

It likes an environment with plenty of sunlight. Give it at least 6 hours of sunlight every day. Provide a little shade in the summer. The more light it gets, the brighter the color of its leaves will be.

5. Fertilization

It is relatively tolerant to poor soil quality, but regular fertilization is beneficial to its growth. It is enough to apply fertilizer twice a year, mainly with thin fertilizers, and there is no need to apply a lot of fertilizer.

6. Pests and diseases

It is very susceptible to leaf spot and gray mold, which can be treated by spraying with a diluted solution of thiophanate-methyl.
