How to cultivate silkworm

How to cultivate silkworm

1. Soil

It is best to use breathable soil for growing silkworms. If conditions permit, it is recommended to use peat soil mixed with perlite and cinders to make your own suitable planting soil. It increases the air permeability and drainage of the soil, which is beneficial to our later maintenance.

2. Temperature

It likes a warm and dry living environment and is not cold-resistant. The optimum growth temperature is around 15~25℃, but it should be noted that it should spend the winter in an environment above 5℃. In northern cities, try to keep it indoors during the winter.

3. Watering

When watering, pay attention to the influence of seasonal factors. In summer, water in small amounts, three to four times a month is enough. At other times, water as soon as the soil is dry. Make sure the water reaches the soil and not the leaves, which will affect the appearance. Especially during the growth period, sufficient water is needed. In winter, if the temperature outside drops below 5℃, you should cut off the watering and keep the soil in the pot dry to facilitate its wintering.

4. Lighting

Spring and autumn are its growing seasons, and it needs full-sun lighting conditions. Provide adequate shade in the summer, use a shade net or move to a shady location.

5. Pruning

The silk plant grows fast and easily grows in groups, so it needs to be given enough space to grow. You can trim it regularly to prevent it from expanding too much and increasing the difficulty of management.
