Lemon tree cultivation tips and precautions

Lemon tree cultivation tips and precautions

The lemon tree loves light and needs plenty of sunlight to grow well. It is an evergreen small tree that can reach a height of 3-6 meters and has a round or oval crown. Nowadays, many people have potted lemon trees at home. Below are some tips and precautions for growing lemon trees.

1. Pot soil selection

The flower pots should be made of breathable materials, such as ceramic pots, or a layer of expanded clay should be laid at the bottom of the plastic pot to facilitate drainage. The soil should be loose, fertile, well-drained and slightly acidic. You can mix leaf mold, garden soil and river sand in a ratio of 4:2:1, and add a small amount of decomposed organic fertilizer .

2. Lighting management

Lemon trees love light and need to be placed in a sunny location, receiving at least 6 hours of direct sunlight a day. When the light is too strong in summer, proper shade is needed at noon to avoid leaf burns.

3. Temperature control

The suitable growth temperature is 20℃-30℃, and the temperature in winter needs to be kept above 5℃. During the high temperatures in summer, move it to a ventilated and cool place.

4. Water and fertilizer management

Keep the soil moist during the growing season, water thoroughly and avoid waterlogging. Apply well-rotted organic liquid fertilizer once a month, and increase the use of phosphorus and potassium fertilizers before flowering and after fruiting. Increase watering appropriately during fruit growth to maintain fruit development.

5. Pruning and shaping

Prune every spring and autumn, cutting off dead branches, diseased branches and overcrowded branches. When pruning, pay attention to maintaining the balance between the main trunk and side branches to promote the growth of new buds.

6. Pest and disease control

Check leaves and branches regularly to prevent and control common pests and diseases such as red spider mites, scale insects, and aphids. When pests and diseases are found, 1500 times diluted 80% DDT emulsion can be used for spraying.

The above are the cultivation techniques for lemon trees. Also, remember to repot them every 2-3 years. The best time to repot is in spring, March to April. Artificial pollination is required during the flowering period to increase the fruiting rate. In winter, you need to keep warm to avoid frostbite on the leaves.
