Does hydrangea have a dormant period? How long is the dormant period of hydrangea?

1.Does hydrangea have a dormant period?

Hydrangeas have a dormant period.

June to August every year is the flowering period of hydrangea. After the flowering period, the branches and leaves of hydrangeas begin to slowly dry and turn yellow. When winter comes, hydrangea will gradually enter a dormant period, and its nutritional needs such as water and nutrients will gradually decrease.

During this period, you can control watering and reduce the amount of water, as long as the surface of the potting soil is kept moist. If you water too much, the roots will not be able to absorb all the water in time, and water will accumulate, which can easily cause frostbite to the roots in low temperatures. The same attention should be paid to fertilization. It is not necessary to fertilize it during the winter dormancy period, otherwise it will not be able to hibernate, and then it will freeze to death because it cannot withstand the cold temperature. Be sure to place it in an environment with suitable temperature so that it can survive the winter safely.

2. How long is the dormancy period of hydrangea?

The dormant period of hydrangea is generally in winter, from November to January of the following year, about three months. During this period, if the plants are grown in the open field, they need to be covered with soil to keep them warm. If it is a potted hydrangea, you can keep it in a sunny south-facing place indoors to avoid it from cold winds and low temperatures.

However, if the temperature is not very low in early winter, you can allow it to continue to withstand the cold outdoors. This can enhance its cold resistance and help it bloom successfully next year. When the temperature drops below six degrees or even zero degrees, it must be moved indoors for maintenance.
