Cultivation methods and precautions of dog flower

1. Lighting

The dog flower has a particularly high demand for light. Its growth and flowering cannot be separated from the help of light. Because it often grows in the wild, the lighting time must be guaranteed, preferably about twelve hours, but strong light should also be avoided. The temperature can be around 25 degrees, and there is generally no need for cold protection in winter. Use loose, fertile and acidic soil. Do not water too much, just keep the soil semi-moist. Repotting or transplanting can be done after the flowers have faded.

2. Temperature

The dog flower likes warmth, but it has good adaptability to temperature. Generally speaking, around 25 degrees is best for its growth. It has good cold resistance and can withstand temperatures below zero in winter. In most areas, there is no need for cold protection for breeding, but if the temperature is really too low, appropriate cold protection is needed.

3. Soil

The requirements of the dog flower for the soil include air permeability, nutrition, etc., and its most important requirement is the pH value. It grows vigorously in acidic soil, but just the opposite in alkaline soil. Specifically, you can mix leaf mold, garden soil and sand, and it is better to control the ratio at seven to five to three.

4. Watering

The dog flower needs water and cannot be kept dry for a long time, but it is also afraid of waterlogging. Therefore, it is better to keep the soil in a semi-dry state at ordinary times. In winter when the temperature is very low, you can reduce watering, and then increase the amount of watering after the temperature rises in spring.

5. Repotting and transplanting

Pay attention to the time of repotting and transplanting, it is best to do it after the flowers have faded.
