The difference between purple magnolia and magnolia grandiflora

The difference between purple magnolia and magnolia grandiflora

1. Difference of blades

The leaves of purple magnolia are elliptical-obovate or obovate, about 8-18 cm long and 3-10 cm wide, with an acute or acuminate tip, and the base gradually narrows and extends down along the petiole to the stipule scar. It is dark green above and sparsely pubescent when young, and gray-green below with pubescence along the veins.

The leaves of Magnolia grandiflora are elliptical or oblong-conical-elliptical in shape, slightly wider than the former, about 10-20 cm long and 4-7 cm wide, with a blunt tip and a wedge-shaped base. The leaves are dark green and shiny. They are hairless when young and have short hairs when they grow bigger.

2. The difference between flowers

The purple magnolia has 9-12 tepals, which are purple-green, lanceolate, purple or purple-red on the outside, white on the inside, and the petals are elliptical-obovate.

The flower of Magnolia grandiflora is white, and the tepals are obovate.
