The difference between Japanese late cherry blossoms and Tokyo cherry blossoms

The difference between Japanese late cherry blossoms and Tokyo cherry blossoms

1. Difference in appearance

Japanese evening cherry is a tree, about 3-8 meters tall, with gray-black or gray-brown bark. The twigs are white or light brown and glabrous.

Tokyo cherry blossoms are taller than the former, reaching a maximum height of 16 meters. The bark is light purple-brown and the young branches are green with sparse soft hairs.

2. Difference of blades

The leaves of Japanese evening cherry are ovate-elliptical or obovate-elliptical, about 5-9 cm long and 2.5-5 cm wide. Stipules are linear, serrated at the edges, and fall off early.

The leaves of Tokyo cherry blossoms are elliptical-ovate or obovate, which are wider than the former, about 5-12 cm long and 2.5-7 cm wide, and the stipules are lanceolate.

3. Petal Difference

Japanese evening cherry blossoms have umbel-shaped racemes, with oval-oval petals and white or pink color.

Tokyo cherry blossoms have umbel inflorescences, brown-red involucral bracts, obovate petals, and only pink color.
