Cutting method of millennium wood

Cutting method of millennium wood

The thousand-year-old wood , also known as the iron tree, red bamboo, etc., is a shrub of the Agave family. It can be placed indoors as a foliage plant and is very popular among people. So how is the Eupatorium propagated by cuttings? What is the cutting method? Let’s learn more about it below.

1. Cutting time

The suitable time for cuttings of Magnoliopsis pilosula is generally around June to October. During this period, it is in the peak growth season, its germination ability will be stronger, and its rooting survival rate will be higher.

2. Selection of cuttings

Choose a lush, healthy, and strong thousand-year-old tree as the mother plant, and cut strong branches about 10-15 cm long from its branches. Before cuttings, it is best to apply some rooting powder on the branches, or soak them in rooting solution for 3-6 hours before cuttings. This can greatly increase the chances of rooting.

3. Cutting medium

Prepare a substrate with good air permeability and drainage. You can use a mixture of vermiculite, perlite and peat soil, or buy special cutting soil.

4. Insert the seeds into the soil

Insert the cuttings into the sand to a depth of about 3-5 cm, not too deep or too shallow. Keep the cuttings stable and do not shake.

5. Points after insertion

After cuttings, be sure to water them with an appropriate amount every day to keep the soil slightly moist, and place them in a cool and ventilated place for maintenance, or build a sunshade to avoid exposure to light. After about two weeks, you will see new roots and leaves growing from the cuttings, and then you can continue to maintain them as normal.

6. Daily maintenance

(1) Watering management

The soil needs to be kept moist during the initial rooting phase, but waterlogging should be avoided. As the root system develops, you can gradually reduce the frequency of watering and just keep the soil slightly moist.

(2) Temperature control

The suitable growth temperature for the elm tree is 20-25℃, and it cannot be lower than 4℃ in winter.

(3) Lighting requirements

Provide plenty of bright light, and can accept moderate strong light or semi-shade environment.

(4) Fertilization strategy

You can apply some decomposed nitrogen and potassium fertilizer to it every half a month, which will make it grow more and more vigorously. But be careful not to use too high a concentration, otherwise it will easily burn the roots.

In general, the cutting method of elm tree is not difficult. As long as you follow the above steps to carry out scientific cutting operations, the survival rate is basically very high.
