The difference between Hainan Syzygium and Syzygium

1. Leaf Difference

The leaves of Hainan Syzygium are leathery, broadly elliptical or narrowly elliptical, about 6 to 12 cm long and 3.5 to 7 cm wide. The tip of the leaf is blunt with a short tip, and the base is broadly cuneate and vaguely round.

The leaves of Syzygium wilfordii are thin leathery, oval or oblong, 10 to 22 cm long and 5 to 8 cm wide, with obtuse or slightly pointed tips and narrowed bases that are rounded or slightly cordate.

2. Flower Differences

The panicle inflorescence of Hainan Syzygium is axillary or grown on the branches, occasionally terminal, and can reach 11 cm. The flowers have short pedicels, are white, and grow in clusters of 3 to 5. The calyx tube is conical, about 4 mm long, and there are 4 petals, which are oval and about 2.5 mm long.

The cymes of Syzygium wilfordii are terminal or axillary, 5 to 6 cm long, with several small white flowers and pedicels about 5 mm long.
