1. Leaf Difference

The leaves of Physalis are simple and alternate. The leaves are ovate or elliptical, herbaceous, about 4 to 12 cm long and 2 to 8 cm wide. The tips of the leaves gradually become pointed, the base is broadly cuneate, and the edges have irregular serrations or shallow cracks.

The leaves of Physalis are alternate, with 1 to 2 leaves at each node. The leaves have short petioles, 1 to 3 cm long, and the leaf blades are ovate, 6 to 9 cm long and 5 to 7 cm wide. The apex gradually becomes sharp, the base is broadly cuneate, and the edges have irregular coarse serrations or are wavy.

2. Flower Differences

The flowers of Pseudophyll are solitary in the leaf axils, are lavender in color, the calyx has five deep lobes, the base of the lobes is heart-shaped, the corolla is funnel-shaped, about 3 cm in diameter, and there are five purple patches inside the flower tube.

Each plant of Physalis has 5 to 10 flowers. The calyx is green and broad bell-shaped, and the corolla is white. After flowering, the calyx will swell into an ovum shape, with a slightly concave base and a thin leathery texture. It is orange-red or fiery red when mature.

3. Fruit Difference

The capsule of Physalis is spherical, about 2 cm in diameter, and is wrapped with 5 persistent sepals.

The berries of the Physalis are spherical, orange-red, 1 to 1.5 cm in diameter, soft and juicy.
